Welcome to CQuID
Central Queens Independent Democrats is a Democratic Party club focused on fighting for economic and racial justice and grassroots democracy. Our founders first gathered to create a new club in August 2020. We quickly began working together to promote Census completion and voter registration. We held our first general meeting In January 2021.
Why was CQuID created? Other Democratic Party clubs in central Queens neighborhoods are not independent nor democratically run: they are controlled by elected public officials and the County Democratic Organization. We formed a club to champion progressive candidates beholden to the voters and Party members, not local elected officials nor the Long Island-based lawyers who run the Queens County Democratic Organization.
Who is involved? Central Queens voters registered as Democrats. We are community board members, parent association members and leaders, and organizers or activists for progressive causes. Some of us are Democratic District Leaders, State Committee Members, Judicial Delegates and County Committee Members determined to make the Party worthy of its name. Others are new to electoral politics. All are welcome.
How does it function? Actively and democratically. We plan to register voters and engage them in exciting campaigns for independent candidates and progressive policies. Our bylaws require at least six membership meetings a year, membership votes on major decisions, and transparency on Executive Committee decisions. To maintain our independence, we do not allow elected public officials, their staff, or District Leaders to hold office in our Club, though we welcome them as members and partners.
